Research Participation

The American Academy of Pediatrics Research in Office Settings Program

This network is directed by the AAP and is dedicated to using a large national sampling of general pediatric office encounters to obtain accurate data on North American children.  We have participated in several studies including redefining the norms of puberty progression in males.

South Carolina Pediatric Practice Research Network (SCPPRN)

This network is based in the Division of General Pediatrics at The Medical University of South Carolina. The network is chaired by Dr. James Roberts, an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at MUSC.  Dr. Roberts frequently sees patients at the MUSC Wednesday specialty clinic in our office.  Previous and ongoing areas of study include:

  • Vitamin D levels in Children with Sickle Cell Anemia
  • Well Water Fluoride concentration levels along Coastal South Carolina
  • The Prevalence Rate of Early Childhood Caries (cavities) in the SCPPRN
  • The Impact of the PEDS Developmental Survey Test on referrals for Early Diagnosis and Treatment of Developmental Problems
  • The Practicality of Incorporating Dental Fluoride Varnish Application in a Pediatric Practice
  • The Incidence of Headaches in General Pediatric Patients
  • The Impact of Childhood Obesity on Correct Use of Child Car Seats

The Sloan Center at Boston University

We have participated in a number of studies from this national network including ibuprofen/acetaminophen effectiveness comparison and xylitol use in ear infection prevention.
